The Princeton Folk Music Society presents Diana Jones, an award-winning singer-songwriter known for her gritty, literary, Appalachian-influenced songs, at 8 p.m. Jan. 20, at Christ Congregation Church, 50 Walnut Lane, Princeton, N.J.
Jones has crafted memorable narratives, much in the spirit of Woody Guthrie. Her progressive, yet historically rich, songs have been recorded by artists such as Joan Baez and Gretchen Peters, and have won awards from Kerrville Folk Festival and New Song Festival. She has shared stages with Richard Thompson, Janis Ian and Mary Gauthier.
Jones comes from a rather diverse background. She was adopted as an infant and raised in the New York City area. After graduating from Sarah Lawrence College, she connected with her birth family in eastern Tennessee and gained a sense of her musical heritage when she discovered that her grandfather, Robert Lee Maranville, was a talented singer and had been in a Knoxville band with Chet Atkins.
Tickets at the door are: $25 ($20 members, $10 students 12 - 22, $5 children 11 and under). There is ample free parking. Masks and proof of full vaccination will be required for admission.
