Del Val cheerleader picked for London parade

Delaware Valley High School senior Kaitlin Marinelli of Kingwood Township, N.J., will be performing in London’s New Year’s Day Parade after earning All-American status from the Varsity Spirit company and the Universal Cheerleaders Association.

Marinelli is one of more than 800 high school cheerleaders from across the United States who will be representing Varsity Spirit.

The individuals invited to perform in London celebration were selected by the UCA and National Cheerleaders Association at summer camps. All-Americans are chosen for their athletic and leadership skills.

In August, Marinelli joined her Del Val team at the UCA Varsity camp in the Poconos, where she was awarded All-American status – for the second time. Only the top 12% of athletes who attend camp earned the chance to perform in the holiday spectacular.

Marinelli cheered in kindergarten through third grade, then returned to it freshman year. She has been on varsity all four years, and is now a team captain.

The team, under the guidance of coach Noreen Stansberry, is having an excellent season. The Terriers placed second at the Pocono Regionals for Game Day routines while earning two bids to nationals. They will compete at nationals in February at the ESPN Wide World of Sports complex in Orlando, Fla., and then at the N.J. State Championship in March.

Marinelli has trained in dance for 16 years at the Star Maker School in Clinton, N.J., where she also competes on the Star Maker team. At Del Val, she’s in the Sport and Spirit Club, and is working with dance teacher Heather Fleischman to establish a chapter of the National Honor Society for Dance Arts.

In the fall, she plans to study business and marketing in college, while continuing her cheer and dance activities at the college level.
