DCNR cancels annual spring whitewater release at Nockamixon State Park; public programs closed

The March 21 – 22, Department of Conservation and Natural Resources’ (DCNR) semi-annual Bucks County, Tohickon Creek whitewater release has been canceled.

Amid concerns about the potential spread of COVID-19, DCNR Secretary Cindy Adams Dunn announced that effective Friday, March 13, all public programs, events and trainings in state parks and forests will be canceled for the remainder of March, and the month of April.

Releases are historically scheduled on a semi-annual basis, usually occurring on the third weekend in March and the first weekend in November. The whitewater releases from the Nockamixon State Park dam provide suitable whitewater boating conditions downstream through Ralph Stover State Park.

Pennsylvania has 121 state parks, and 20 state forest districts.

In consultation with the Governor’s Office and Pennsylvania Department of Health, DCNR will continue to evaluate visitor health and safety as the COVID-19 situation evolves.
