David R. McShane


David R. McShane, age 82, of New Hope, Pa., passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home on June 12, 2023. He was born on Jan. 14, 1941.

David’s youth was spent in his family residence in Montclair, N.J., with his father, J. Russell McShane, his mother Evelyn McShane (nee Reader), brother, Richard McShane, and twin brother, Donald McShane.

As a young man he was a recreational sailor in the Bay Head, N.J., area. David was a graduate of Avon Old Farms School in Connecticut where he would later become the treasurer on their board. He pursued his college education at Lehigh University in Pennsylvania.

Upon completing his educational experiences, David took over ownership of his father’s founding company Baker McShane later acquiring Winans formatting Winans-McShane (McShane Enterprises). The company was led through several decades of great success under David’s leadership and guidance.

A man known by everyone for his big laugh, witty sense of humor, and enjoyment of steak houses. Avid dog lover always owning one or up to four at any given time. Since the early 90s David would always return to his beloved country estate on Paxson Hill Farm, which he owned as the farm’s president.

Preceded in death by his parents and siblings, David is survived by many lifelong friends, godchildren, and all the animals on his farm. It should be noted that his contributions to his charitable organizations will have a lasting impact for generations. Honorable mentions to charities he worked with include the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra, The Philadelphia Zoo Organization, The Ronald McDonald House, Mane Stream, AmFar, Broadway Cares, The ASPCA, Tune Up Philly, The foundation of Colonial Williamsburg and countless others.

David’s family and friends wish to extend our sincere thanks to David’s physicians, nurses, and caretakers for the wonderful care they provided.

A viewing will be held at the Varcoe-Thomas Funeral Home, 344 N. Main St., Doylestown, PA 18901 on Saturday, June 24, 2023 from 11 a.m.-noon, with a service to begin at 12 p.m.

Private cremation will follow.
