DART bus service to extend to Chalfont and New Britain

Bucks County has been awarded a grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development to extend the Doylestown DART Bus program by adding an additional dedicated bus to run through the boroughs of New Britain and Chalfont as well as New Britain Township and link to the Doylestown line.

“I am proud to announce that I have secured a grant to extend the Doylestown DART bus farther west to make it easier for more of our community to use public transit. This is a very exciting opportunity for Bucks County and our residents,” said Rep. Todd Polinchock (R-Bucks).

“This is going to make travel so much more convenient for everyone in the area. I am thrilled because this bus will open up the entire Business Route 202 on Butler Avenue to allow residents and the university students access to our amazing small businesses, restaurants, parks and trails.”

The Doylestown DART has been offering low-fare transportation to riders in the Doylestown area since 2001, connecting them to local businesses, shopping centers and Delaware Valley University.

The DART West Extension will offer the same low-fare services to residents in west Bucks County along Business Route 202. The route will run from the shopping center and medical facilities at Butler Avenue and County Line Road and will end at The Gatherings at University Village by Delaware Valley University, where it will connect with the Doylestown DART, allowing riders to switch buses and take the line into Doylestown.

“This is really great news! The Dart Bus Committee has been working for three years with both elected officials and staff from the three municipalities to bring this project to fruition. Extension of Dart Bus service out Business Route 202 will provide expanded accessibility, not just for seniors and Del Val students but for all residents, to the exciting growth along that corridor.

“At the same time this service will provide a link with all the resources Doylestown Borough and the township has to offer,” said Lou White Chair, Dart Bus Committee.

The bus is scheduled to begin service on Jan. 1.
