DAR members knit hats for homeless veterans

Posted

Marijane Meckling a member of the Bucks County Chapter of the DAR recently met Bobbi Speller to deliver over 100 hand-knitted winter hats.
Speller and her husband, Eddie, are the local directors of Stand Down, an all-volunteer organization manned by active and retired military personnel. Stand Down’s mission is to provide services to local homeless veterans. Once a year after Labor Day they organize the event and bring everyone together. While the Veterans Administration provides medical care other military and nonmilitary vendors pitch in to provide housing information, education and when appropriate job training.
The Bucks County Chapter of the DAR provided hand-knitted hats from their members and local women who contributed their time to knit winter hats for our homeless veterans.
