Newtown’s first Antique and Classic Car and Truck Cruise Night, sponsored by the Newtown Business Association on July 19, raised $2,000 to benefit the Buck County COVID-19 Recovery Fund.
Fees from the 90-event registrants contributed to the money raised for the fund, with many donating above the minimum $10 event fee.
The Cruise Night featured a caravan of classic and antique cars and trucks that were judged for Best in Class in five categories and then joined together for the cruise through Newtown Borough and Township. The event was received as a welcome diversion during this time of limited gathering and social distancing. It allowed people to watch the parade of “cool cars and trucks” from the comfort and safety of their front lawns or under a shade tree along the main streets through the borough and township. The route was publicized so that people could determine when and where to view the cruise.
NBA appreciates all the car owners who came out in the heat to compete for Best in Class and then parade their cars around Newtown.
Winners were: Pre-1959 – Allen Haldeman, 1932 Ford Roadster; 1960-1969 – Robert Gilson, C-10 Chevrolet Pickup; 1970-1979 – Bill and Dana Aycock, 1974 Ford Bronco; 1980-1995 – Tom Christie, 1980 Chevrolet Z-28; Foreign (to 1995) – Steve Thorne, Bugatti EB110SS.
Co-Chairs Gerry Couch and Joe Tryon thank all the committee members, judges, and volunteers for their hard work and perseverance in very hot conditions.
