Posted

From new, independent films for rent, free broadcasts from the world’s top stages and museums, filmmaker events, and Hollywood Classics, the County Theater@Home virtual cinema is keeping the spirit of the theater-going experience alive.

Read more: New streaming titles for rent beginning today include: “The Times of Bill Cunningham,” a documentary narrated by Sarah Jessica Parker, featuring photographs chosen from over 3 million previously unpublicized images and documents from iconic street photographer and fashion historian Bill Cunningham; and “Straight Up,” by first-time filmmaker James Sweeney, an assured, modern rom-com. This Millennial update to the classic screwball comedy genre was produced by Doylestown native Ross Putman. At 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 29, attend a live virtual Q&A with director-writer-star James Sweeney of “Straight Up” and producer Ross Putman. Visit the County Theater website for information.

The County Theater has added three new free streaming arts options to its website. Each Friday, a new Andrew Lloyd Webber musical is being streamed live. This week is the sequel to “The Phantom of the Opera,” “Love Never Dies.” “Exhibition on Screen” has gone virtual and is offering a Monday broadcast of “Painting the Modern Garden: From Monet to Matisse.” Local filmmaker Bert Shapiro has made a 14-film series of shorts about musicians called “Music Is My Passion.” Viewers can watch the shorts on the renaissance ensemble Piffaro and The Baltimore Consort this week. Links to all of these options, as well as to the NTLive and MET Opera streams are on the County Theater website.
