County opens its ballot boxes for mail-in, absentee ballots

Posted

Voters can now drop their mail-in or absentee ballots off at one of Bucks County’s Official Drop Boxes in government buildings. Eight additional boxes located in libraries open May 1, the county announced this week.

Drop boxes are located at each of the county’s three government buildings, including one in Doylestown, one in Quakertown and another in Levittown.

There are eight additional sites in libraries across Lower, Central and Upper Bucks. For a full listing and hours of operation, visit https://www.buckscounty.gov/1417/Drop-Box-Locations.

Boxes located inside the county’s office building will be open during normal business hours, while those in most libraries will be open until 8 p.m.

Every box will be staffed by a Board of Elections employee during operating hours and locked when not in use. The county has installed 24/7 video surveillance, officials said.

It is against the law to return any ballot other than your own, with the exception of those authorized as a Designated Agent of another voter.

While mail-in and absentee ballots can be dropped off as late as 8 p.m. on Election Day, May 16, voters are encouraged to fill out their ballots as early as possible. The ballot must be sealed inside the secrecy envelope, which is now yellow, and then sealed inside the return envelope, which the voter must sign.

No return postage is needed if a voter wishes to mail their ballot to the Board of Elections.
