NRG Energy, Inc. has partnered with HomeFront in Lawrenceville, N.J., and local area restaurants to fund and deliver meals to HomeFront families and individuals who are residing in local motels during this crisis.
For NRG, this involves filling four donation slots, representing 30 meals each – 120 meals per week. Once the four donation slots are filled, NRG team members coordinate ordering meals from local restaurants and directly delivering them to the motels.
The initiative is targeted at helping two communities who are extremely vulnerable to the economic effects of COVID-19 – the homeless/home insecure and small restaurants. However, what developed from this initiative was more than expected, as the small program expanded into a community effort with restaurants providing meals at cost, the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen offering to provide 90 meals a week, positiveNRG – NRG’s CSR program – agreeing to match all employee donations, Lawrenceville Main Street initiative – a partnership of local businesses and community members – providing donations, and so many more contributing to the cause.
By coming together as a community, the initiative has been able to provide 288 restaurant meals and supplemental groceries a week to these families and individuals in need.
