Clement Edgar (Ted) Garrison Jr. passed away on Sunday, Oct. 29 at Pine Run Health Center. He was 98 years old.
Born in Quinton, N.J., in 1925, he was a son of Mary Catheryn and Clement Edgar Garrison. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Barbara Ann Geiger and a brother William Edward Garrison. He is survived by his nieces Carol Liane Lehning, Bonnie deCourt, Barbara Kanoy, Kim Faust and nephews Bill Garrison and John Geiger.
Ted was inducted into the United States Army Infantry in 1944. He served as an instructor in riflery and was honorably discharged in 1947.
Ted studied art at the Newark Academy of Art, Pratt Institute, and The Art Students League. His realistic figurative oil paintings were frequently included in exhibitions and he pursued his passion for painting throughout his life.
From 1951 until 1968, Ted and Dick Van Duzer, his partner for 58 years, owned and operated their flower shop in New York City. In 1968, they relocated to Holland Township, N.J., and founded The Valley Florist in Frenchtown. They moved to Tinicum Township in 1980 where they cultivated picturesque gardens amid the bucolic landscape of their property. They enjoyed sharing their gardens with horticulturists, garden clubs and other gardening enthusiasts.
Ted’s other interests included the ballet, classical music and the opera. His family and friends remember his dry wit, his aesthetic sensibility, and remain grateful for his generosity and friendship.
