Christopher Canaan sets reading on Doylestown stage

Posted

Emmy Award winning writer, Christopher Canaan, will present a staged reading of his new play, “Reckonings in New Hope,” on Saturday, Sept. 18, at the James Lorah House, 132. N. Main St., Doylestown.
The reading will begin at 7 p.m.
The play revolves around three best friends who grew up in New Hope and are reuniting for their 50th high school reunion where they are forced to reckon with issues that have haunted them from their distant and not so distant pasts.
Since Canaan and his wife, Kathy, arrived in New Hope five years ago he has had the opportunity to present readings and productions of his plays at various venues, including New Hope Solebury High School Theater, The Phillips Mill Theater, Lambertville Hall and The Actors Net in Morrisville. His plays include, “The Big Bad Wolf: An Adult Fairy Tale About Fear, Friendship and Sexual Identity,” “Writer’s Block,” “Sprinkles and Glaze,” “Rewrite “and “Franko Franko.”
“When we landed in New Hope from Los Angeles, I had no idea how much talent there was in the area,” Canaan said. “I feel so lucky to have met so many wonderful actors and writers and to be part of a thriving artistic community. It is my hope to eventually put together a formal theater repertory group in New Hope so we can produce a variety of plays by local and regional writers in a less ad hoc manner.”

The play features George Hartpence of New Hope, Joey Perillo of Yardley and Canaan, who describes himself as a “New Hopian.”
Admission is free, though donations are never refused. “Hey, I like to pay my actors,” said Canaan with a smile. “And please, only come if you have had both shots,” he added.
Be advised that the play contains strong language.
Attendance is limited to those who have been fully vaccinated.
