Tyler Gallagher of Chalfont recently completed the physician assistant (PA) studies master’s degree program at King’s College, Wilkes-Barre. He received his degree at the college’s annual summer commencement as a member of the program’s 42nd graduating class.
Physician assistants are both nationally certified and state licensed to practice medicine. After graduation, they take a national certification exam administered by the National Commission on Certification of PAs (NCCPA). Upon successful completion of the exam, they are able to perform physical exams, develop treatment plans, interpret lab tests, assist in surgery, and prescribe medications, among many other responsibilities to their patients. PAs work anywhere from private offices to hospitals and across numerous medical disciplines such as, family practice, pediatrics, surgery, or psychiatry.
