Central Bucks West Harlequin Club slates Cole Porter’s “Anything Goes”

Posted

Winner of the 2022 Philadelphia Independence Award for Best Musical (“Amélie”), the Central Bucks High School West Harlequin Club presents “Anything Goes” March 30 to April 2.

“Anything Goes,” with music and lyrics by Cole Porter, opened on Broadway in November 1934. The show has had several Broadway revivals with the 1987 revival starring Patti LuPone and the 2011 revival starring Sutton Foster both winning the Tony for Best Revival.

The Harlequin Club production is a 2022 revision (based on the 1987 revival) which includes script revisions that reflect more contemporary sensibilities.

“Anything Goes” is a feel-good song-and-dance musical romantic comedy set on the high seas aboard the SS American, a luxury liner sailing from New York to London in 1934.

The show features Cole Porter favorites, including “I Get a Kick Out of You,” “Friendship,” “It’s De-lovely,” “Blow Gabriel Blow” and the title song, “Anything Goes.”

The Harlequin Club currently has a large number of dancers and tappers, and Director Jessica Bostock wanted to select a show that would really feature those talents. Bostock said “the power of joy and hopefulness in the show is infectious” and she hopes for the audience to sit back and “escape to a simpler happily-ever-after world” for a few hours.

“Anything Goes” is playing at Central Bucks High School West, 375 W. Court St., Doylestown, Thursday March 30 through Sunday April 2. Curtain time is 7 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and there is a 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday. The ticket link can be found at www.cbsd.org/harlequinclub. Adults pay $15; children/seniors $10. Tickets at the door are cash or check only.
