The Central Bucks School Board was expected to adopt a new program for elementary school social studies curriculum at its meeting 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25.
The district’s curriculum committee, composed of teachers from district elementary school, reviewed four programs with the object to recommend three to pilot in 2020-21. The four programs were McGraw Hill’s Impact program; the Savvas “My World International,” Houghton Mifflin Harcourt’s “Into Social “Studies,” and Core Knowledge History and Geography.
The committee gave McGraw Hill first place, Houghton Mifflin second place, Savvas in a near tie for second, and Core Knowledge fourth.
However, the latest report includes Core Knowledge among the pilot programs. The model focuses on clear facts with right or wrong answers. Critics say it does not prepare students to be able to think “outside the box.”
