In a 6-3 vote, the Central Bucks School Board Tuesday night approved a five-year contract with its superintendent that includes a $90,000 raise. The new deal immediately takes Abram Lucabaugh’s annual salary to $315,000.
After a long line of speakers, both for and against the compensation package, addressed the board during a three-hour meeting, the board split along party lines to pass the contract. One board member who opposed the deal said she would have supported a smaller pay hike.
The top administrator took the position in 2021 for $225,000.
Beginning July 1, 2024, providing he receives at least a “proficient” rating for the preceding year, Lucabaugh will get a minimum 2½ percent increase to his base salary every year of the contract. During the remaining years of his contract, he will receive a minimum increase of 3 percent of his most current base salary for the remainder of the deal.
Additionally, the board can increase the superintendent’s salary at any time. It may not, however, decrease it. The new contract allows Lucabaugh to sell back his unused sick days and vacation time, should he chose to do so.
Lucabaugh’s July performance evaluation rated his work as “distinguished” in three areas and “proficient” in two sections. His overall rating for the 2022-2023 school year was rated “distinguished,” according to the school board.
