Jackson Manning, a Central Bucks West High School junior, was the first prize winner at the 6th annual “Voices of the Future” competition held by the Bucks County Choral Society Saturday, April 8, at the James Lorah Memorial House in Doylestown.
Manning received a scholarship award of $1,000 and will be a featured soloist on the choir’s season finale concert, “Life begins at 50 – Our journey so far and our hopes for the future,” at 4 p.m. Sunday, June 4, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 301 N. Main St., Doylestown.
Joining Manning in a public master class with mezzo soprano and voice teacher Suzanne Duplantis were finalists Helena Badiali from Central Bucks East High school, Janki Namboodiripad from Pennsbury High School, and Olivia Garland from Neshaminy High School.
The finalists all received $500 scholarship awards. Attending the annual performance were event sponsors Alice and Bob Vernon, joined by a large and supportive audience.
Voices of the Future is a classical singing competition sponsored by the Bucks County Choral Society for students in grades 9-12 who live or attend school in Bucks County. The program was founded by Choral Society Artistic Director Thomas Lloyd.
