Posted

Carmen S. Reed of Doylestown joined her husband and youngest daughter in heaven on March 27, 2022 surrounded by her loving family. She was 94 years old and the wife of the late Norman E Reed.

Born in Tyrone, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Edward E. and Margaret D. Shollenberger.

Carmen was a graduate of Tyrone High School, Class of 1946. After marrying the love of her life, the young couple moved to Doylestown and Carmen began her long career with Doylestown Federal Savings and Loan in 1955.

She worked her way up from a teller to become the assistant vice president of online operations. In addition to being a banker, Carmen was also a stellar organist and pianist, serving first United Methodist Church and later First Baptist Church both in Doylestown.

She fell in love with college basketball while attending regional finals to see her daughter play in the pep band. March Madness reigned supreme in her home from that time forward. Carmen’s other great passion was Drum Corps and the Crossmen in particular. Every summer she would attend as many shows as possible and continued to go to the finals with her daughter, Michele, until a few years before her death.

It was during those trips that she discovered her love of horse racing and Churchill Downs in particular.

Carmen loved to travel and always planned exciting vacations for her family and spur of the moment adventures were the norm. Life with Carmen was never boring. Carmen was preceded in death by her husband, Norman, and youngest daughter, Michele. She is survived by her oldest daughter, LaFaun Reed Kahn (Jeff); grandsons Louis Schultz, Alan Schultz (Allison) and James Kahn; granddaughters Kimberly Schultz and Ashley Borowski (Kirk); great-grandsons Alex Schultz and Ryan Schultz and great-granddaughters Tessa Schultz and Macayla Borowski.

A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m., April 22, 2022 at Addisville Church, 945 Second Street Pike, Richboro, Pa., where friends may call from 6 p.m., until the time of the service. Interment will be private.
