Bucks Y president walks to raise awareness of Y’s impact

Posted
Zane Moore, president/CEO of YMCA of Bucks County continues his cross-county adventure across Bucks County to raise awareness of the impact that the Y makes in the lives of children and families in the community, expanding his endeavor from 2018.

The walk aims to raise awareness of the Ys annual campaign, raising funds for its community programs, including its THRIVE cancer wellness, Veterans Wellness and new Back to You designed to support individuals in the community recovering from substance abuse.

Additionally, funds support YMCA financial assistance efforts and its free 7th grade membership initiative. Another component of the campaign for this year is the inclusion of capital renovation efforts at both the Fairless Hills and Doylestown branches, where expansion is necessary to continue to meet growing community need.

In 2018, all Y branches in Bucks County merged to become YMCA of Bucks County, adding the Quakertown branch in January. Moore is walking from the Quakertown branch through Bucks County to the Doylestown branch and then to the Fairless Hills branch. Along the way, Moore will be joined by friends of the Y from local businesses and other nonprofit organizations.

Moore kicked-off his walk with a “carb load” rally at the Warminster branch on May 8, with members of the public, with the official start of the walk beginning at the Quakertown branch this morning, May 9.

Culminating the day’s activities will be an outdoor barbecue arrival celebration and rally at the Doylestown branch.

The walk will resume again the next morning at the Doylestown branch with arrival events scheduled for Newtown at 2:30 p.m. and an additional celebration barbecue at the Fairless Hills branch beginning at 6 p.m. Events are sponsored by GymSource.

The community is invited to attend regional community events to celebrate the walk including:

Quakertown Send-Off Breakfast and Rally, 8:30 a.m. Thursday, May 9, at 401 Fairview Ave., Quakertown;

Doylestown Arrival Outdoor BBQ and Rally, 5 p.m. Thursday, May 9, at 2500 Lower State Road, Doylestown;
