Bucks unveils new Business + Innovation Department

Bucks County Community College has renamed its Business Studies Department as the Business + Innovation Department.

“The name change, which came after a survey of faculty who provided valuable feedback, better reflects today’s business environment and opens new possibilities for academic programs,” said Dr. Stephanie Shanblatt, college president.

“It communicates that we are a forward-looking institution, and also represents our cross-curricular programs of study, non-credit offerings, and events offered across three campuses and online.”

Such cross-curricular programs include: Social Media and Digital Marketing certificate with the Arts Department; Business Analytics certificate being developed with the STEM Department; Cross-campus Innovative Mindset training; Lead and Succeed high school summer experience; Women’s Summit on Entrepreneurship; Technical Entrepreneurship collaborations with area tech schools; Start-Me-Up Challenge entrepreneurship contest; and Business + Innovation podcast to be produced with the digital recording class.

In conjunction with the new name, the college also cut the ribbon on the Innovation Den. A suite of connected classrooms in Grupp Hall has been transformed into a comfortable, inviting space where students can gather to brainstorm and share ideas.

Similar to the Entrepreneur Lab at the Epstein Campus at Lower Bucks, the Innovation Den is open to all students to spark their creativity, study, work or just relax between classes. Furnished with games and inspirational books, it can be used for faculty and student interaction as well.

Department Dean Tracy Timby added that the changes reflect the college’s ability to adapt to the business environment.

“The Innovation Den and the newly named Business + Innovation Department help us move forward to better meet the needs of students amid the demands of our ever-changing economic climate,” said Timby.

The Business + Innovation Department at Bucks County Community College offers 21 programs of study that lead to either an associate degree or certificate. To learn more, visit, call 215-968-8227 or email
