Bucks Gilbert & Sullivan Society stages musical comedy set in sunny Venice

Posted

The Bucks County Gilbert & Sullivan Society presents Gilbert & Sullivan’s sunniest musical comedy, “The Gondoliers,” in Delaware Valley University’s Life Sciences Building theater, 700 E. Butler Ave., Doylestown.

The show, at 8 p.m. Friday, June 17, 2 and 8 p.m. Saturday, June 18, and 2 p.m. Sunday, June 19, will be accompanied by the 35-piece Bucks County Gilbert & Sullivan Orchestra.

Set in 18th century Venice amid picturesque canals and palaces, the show tells the topsy-turvy story of two carefree brother gondoliers who are shocked to learn that one of them is actually a king — but it’s difficult to know which one.

The society’s 2022 season is dedicated to the memory of Christine and Charlie Penglase, who throughout their lives shared a love of music and a commitment to family, teaching and community service.

“The Gondoliers” is directed by Katherine Nealley of Havertown, Music Director is Lee F. Milhous of New Britain and assisting them is Bob Binkley of New Britain. Bill Buckman and Ed Connolly of Doylestown are producers. Joe Nappi of Doylestown is rehearsal pianist, Technical Director is Dave Cassel of Perkasie and Jesse Roy of Doylestown is stage manager. The sets are designed and painted by Henry Heymann of Doylestown, a veteran of decades of professional theater productions at the Santa Fe Opera House, New York City and Pittsburgh.

The cast of “The Gondoliers” features Tim Faulkner of Ewing, N.J., Ed Nealley of Havertown, Abby Capitolo of Abington, Grace Herron of Doylestown, Derek Hess of Boyertown, Julie May of West Chester, Lily Kull of Ardmore, Daniel Potter of Princeton Junction, N.J., Colin Dahms, Jane Betro of Bethlehem, and a chorus featuring Sarah Folsom-Kovarik and Hannah Binkley of Ambler, Faith Donaher of Phoenixville, Julie Smith of Philadelphia, Clare Fannon of Newtown, Rachel Kull of Wynnewood, Martha Ellen Smith of Levittown, Fred Dittmann of Berwyn, Amleto Pucci of Erwinna, Robert Kinney, Bill Buckman, Kristen Shields and Jen Feder of Doylestown, Joe Gentile of Bedminster, Ricardo J.
