Bucks Foodshed Alliance kicks off farm tours at Shady Fox Farm

Posted

Bucks County Foodshed Alliance announces the 2023 series of farm evenings that introduce consumers to the local small-scale producers who put the freshest foods onto area tables via direct sales, community-supported agriculture operations (CSAs), farmers markets, farm stands, and other venues.

The farm evenings include a potluck meal and a farmer-led tour of each farm.

The series opens Wednesday, June 7, with a visit to Shady Fox Farm, 3451 Street Road, Doylestown.

Shady Fox Farm is a woman-owned farm that raises 100% grass fed beef and pastured pork and chickens (poultry and eggs). It offers a CSA subscription box of high-quality meats and a la carte sales at shadyfoxfarm.com.

Each farm tour will begin at 6 p.m. with a potluck meal followed by the farmer-led tour at 7 p.m. The educational and entertaining event is appropriate for children of all ages who are under an adult’s supervision. Wear appropriate footwear for the farm. While the tour is free, donations to offset the cost of BCFA’s community programs are appreciated.

The series continues with two more summer farm tours: Wednesday, July 5, at Milk House Farm Market, 1118 Slack Road, Newtown, and Wednesday, Aug. 2, at First Fruits Farm, 7364 Easton Road, Pipersville.

Milkhouse Farm Market is a family run, woman-owned farm that produces fruits, vegetables, pasture raised eggs, pasture raised, organically fed, chicken, duck, and turkey. The farm market is open daily and Milk House Farm Market is a regular vendor at the Wrightstown Farmers Market. More information can be found at milkhousefarmmarket.com

First Fruits Farm is a husband and wife team that raises mixed produce, honey, cut flowers, both duck and chicken eggs, pasture-raised chicken, forest-grazed pork, and grass-fed lamb. They focus on regenerative agriculture practices. More information can be found at firstfruitsfarmpa.com

Any cancellations due to severe weather will be posted on the BCFA website and Facebook page. For information on Bucks County Foodshed Alliance, or to explore their local food map, visit BucksFoodshed.org.
