Bucks float therapy center bridges gap between modern medicine, wellness

Posted

Many believe that traditional health care and wellness are two separate entities.
But, since 2019, Lma Mineral Float, a Bucks County-based float therapy center, part of a concierge-style medical practice, has attempted to address this gap in the industry to benefit those who seek an internal medical practice and wellness facility in one.
The owners of Lma and its parent medical practice, Preservation Health, internist Dr. Keith Sadel, and his wife, Vivi Sadel, practice what they preach: proactive wellness. In their medical practice, they work daily with patients who have a variety of chronic and acute conditions that can be treated with a combination of modern medicine, lifestyle changes, and wellness practices. With the addition of float therapy and a sauna, they have developed an innovative and luxurious, yet practical, health practice with roots in ancient times ––particularly the practices of Greek and Roman spas, when basking, bathing, and soaking in mineral-rich water was a popular health practice believed to relax and heal the mind and body.

Additionally, the purpose of the sauna is to release toxins through sweat and promote healing. Though inspired by the healing benefits of communal Greek and Roman spas, Lma provides a solitary experience for modern times.
Float therapy –– based on the work of Dr. John Lilly, who developed the first float tank in 1954 and who coined the term “Restricted Environmental Sensory Technique,” or REST, the sensory deprivation experience of no distractions of light or sound –– consists of floating for an hour in a tank of magnesium-rich water at body temperature. This creates a weightless experience designed to relieve tension and stimuli on the mind and body. On the mind, according to research, floating is known to reduce stress, improve sleep, and enhance creativity and cognitive skills. On the body, floating is said to reduce pain and inflammation, improve athletic recovery and performance, replenish skin, improve circulation, and relax muscles.
Lma, short for “Leave me alone,” is reminiscent of a Middle Eastern spa and features specially selected items emblematic of the Dead Sea. Industry experts equate floating in a pod or tank to floating in the mineral-rich Dead Sea –– the only place in the world where one can float with zero gravity. At Lma, clients can add optional music and/or lights. Each private float suite also includes a shower, bathing essentials, and towels. A lounge is provided to reset after your experience.
