Bucks County Symphony prepares for 70th season

Posted

The Bucks County Symphony is celebrating its 70th season this year and it is adding some celebratory events.
The year has started with an announcement that a scholarship in the name of Wendy Christensen will be awarded by violinist Elizabeth Pitcairn, who is executive director of the Luzerne Music Center in New York’s Adirondacks. The scholarship will support a four-week music summer experience for a young musician in 2022.
As a prelude to the fall and winter season, the society is hosting “Cocktails on the Terrace” at the Doylestown Country Club Saturday, Sept. 24. Pitcairn will play her legendary Red Mendelssohn Stradivarius and be accompanied by Sebastian Grand on piano and Noelle Casella Grand on cello. The society is seeking sponsors for the event.

One of the society’s core missions is to ensure that classical music thrives in local schools and among youth. BCSO awards three scholarships to Central Bucks high school seniors and conducts a Youth Concerto Competition, with the winner receiving a cash award and the opportunity to perform at the December Family Concert.
Admission to all concerts is free for students.
Contact the Luzerne Music Center for information about the camp scholarship. Address inquiries to Elizabeth Pitcairn, Executive Director, P.O. Box 39, 203 Lake Tour Road, Lake Luzerne, N.Y. 12846.
