PA Department of Health provides update on COVID-19 – 693 new positives bring statewide total to 127,633

The Pennsylvania Department of Health today confirmed as of noon, Aug. 21 that there are 693 additional positive cases of COVID-19, bringing the statewide total to 127,633. All 67 counties in Pennsylvania have cases of COVID19. There are 7,558 total deaths attributed to COVID-19, an increase of 20 new deaths reported.
The number of tests administered within the last 7 days between August 14 and August 20 is 159,049 with 4,819 positive cases. There were 24,058 test results reported to the department through 10 p.m., August 20. These results represent the total number of tests administered.
 
There are 645 patients who have a positive serology test and either COVID-19 symptoms or a high-risk exposure, which are considered probable cases and not confirmed cases. There are 1,399,509 patients who have tested negative to date.
 
Mask-wearing is required in all businesses and whenever leaving home. Consistent mask-wearing is critical to preventing the spread of COVID-19.

  • Chester County: 5,394 cases and 350 deaths
  • Delaware County: 9,946 cases and 718 deaths
  • Lehigh County: 5,112 cases and 342 deaths
  • Montgomery County: 10,607 cases and 861 deaths
  • Northampton County: 4,0496 cases and 296 deaths
  • Philadelphia: 28,052 cases and 1,758 deaths

New Jersey cases total 188,098

The New Jersey Department of Health announced that as of Aug. 21 there are 188,527 cases of COVID-19, 19 new cases and 14,103 confirmed deaths. There are 8,237 Mercer County residents who have tested positive for COVID-19 and 585 people have died. In Mercer County, there are 13 new cases and also 39 probable deaths from COVID-19. Hunterdon County reports 1,180 cases and 70 confirmed deaths plus 54 probable deaths from COVID-19. There are 10 new cases in Hunterdon County.
 
The transmission rate for New Jersey is 1.06.
