Bucks-based Americans for Native Americans makes plea for Navajo Nation

According to NBC and other news sources, the Navajo Nation has the third highest infection rate in the country, behind only New York and New Jersey in per capita confirmed cases of COVID-19. ANA is requesting help with food for children, face masks, disinfecting wipes, according to Mary Lee Reiff, ANA chair. Read more

1) Food for Kids - The most critical need is for the children. According to Feeding America's 2019 report, the highest percentage of childhood hunger in the country (33.5%) is in the area where ANA works. With the children out of school and not able to get breakfast and lunch each day, the schools are busing lunches out to the students' homes. However, the children are still hungry and additional funds are needed so the schools can send supplemental snacks and breakfast items with the lunches. ANA is sending the requested items directly to the schools we work with, in most cases with free shipping, so 100% of your donation will be used for food.

2) Face Masks - With the mandate that everyone on the reservation wear a mask, your help in sewing homemade masks is needed. If you can make masks, please email for further details.

3) Disinfecting Wipes - Many of the homes on and around the reservation have no running water, making hand washing and other disinfecting routines next to impossible. We need to locate and purchase large quantities of disinfecting wipes and sanitizer. If you know a source or are willing to donate toward their purchase, we would be very grateful.

For details on any of the above requests, please email Donations can be made through the ANA website: OR by check made to Americans for Native Americans and mailed to ANA, PO Box 490, Doylestown, PA 18901. Please note where you would like your donation to be directed or if it should be put toward the area of greatest need.
