Bowman’s Hill Wildflower Preserve sets first online auction

Posted
It goes without saying that this year has brought unprecedented hardships for everyone, and Bowman’s Hill Wildflower Preserve is no exception.

The cancellation of its largest annual fundraising event, the Spring Wildflower Gala, created a significant financial shortfall. The closure of the Preserve in the spring also eliminated admission, rental and education revenues.

“But rays of sunshine have poked through,” said Peter Couchman, the Preserve’s executive director. “Our family of supporters rallied to the cause to make our Emergency Relief Campaign a success and keep the Preserve’s lights on. And more people than ever have been visiting our trails and native plant collection.”
From Oct. 1 to 5, the entire community is invited to help by participating in the Preserve’s first-ever online auction, which will raise crucial operating funds. Through the generosity of the Preserve’s Gala sponsors and donors, the items originally planned for the annual in-person Gala Auction will be offered online.

The Gala committee has put together an enticing collection of prizes ranging from a week at the Ritz-Carlton Club in St. Thomas to a native lawn and wildflower installation. From books, placemats, jewelry or even a baseball bat signed by Willie Mays, there are items for every budget.

“The funds we raise from this exciting online auction will support the Preserve’s mission to keep our accredited plant collection safe and maintained; our facilities operational; our educational programs running; and our property ready for the community to enjoy,” said Couchman. “Please come enjoy the hiking trails, visit our Native Plant Nursery and connect with the landscape-flora, fauna and everything in between.”
