Blazers represent ACBL in All-Star game

Quakertown Blazer infielder Anthony Viggiano (Bloomsburg), outfielder Luke Cantwell (West Chester) and catcher Bill Hitman (California Pa.) were selected to the Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League (ACBL) All-Star team.

Additionally, the ACBL was managed by Blazer skipper Chris Ray. Ray’s Blazers won the 2018 ACBL championship. Ray was assisted by Blazer coaches Kenny Collins and Neil Herman.

The ACBL All-Stars fell to the New York Collegiate Baseball League (NYCBL) All-Stars 3-0 on Monday at Yogi Berra Stadium in Little Falls, the home of the Can-Am League’s New Jersey Jackals. The Blazers were 13-10, sitting atop the Wolff Division, at press time.

Through the All-Star Break, Viggiano ranked third in the ACBL with both his .394 batting average and 26 hits. His seven steals are fifth best in the League. Cantwell, with 13 runs batted in, was just one RBI behind Viggiano. Cantwell’s 10 steals ranked second in the ACBL and his 20 hits were among league leaders. Hitman tallied a safety or RBI in 11 of his first 13 games. He thumped four doubles in 41 at-bats.

All three Blazer selections interestingly play against each other in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference during the school year.
