Barbara Ellen Carlson, 102 years old, of Doylestown, PA passed away peacefully in her home on January 21, 2024. She was born in Newton, Kansas on November 5, 1921, to John V. and Alda Zook of Oskaloosa, Iowa.

A memorial service for friends and family to honor her memory will be held on March 23rd at 11:00 a.m. at Rolling Hills Methodist Church in Pipersville, PA.

Barbara Carlson lived her life to the fullest. She was a mother, teacher, and a supportive minister’s wife. She began her teaching career in a one room schoolhouse in Kansas. After her daughters were in school, she created and taught a class for children with learning disabilities who did not have a placement in the public school. During this time she completed her Bachelors, earned a Masters in Special Education and then taught in Bristol Township School District for many years.

Barbara Carlson was a strong, determined, and dedicated woman whose life was an example of how to live one’s faith. In her role as a minister’s wife, she supported her husband by playing the piano and organ for services and directed and accompanied the choirs at church. When her late husband Rowland L. Carlson retired, they established Discovery Service Projects together. It is an organization to create opportunities for volunteers to activate their faith by working alongside people who fell on hard times or participate in various ways to build and support churches and communities in developing countries.

Barbara Carlson is survived by 60 immediate family members. 5 children, 15 grandchildren, and their partners, and 24 great grandchildren. Her family strives to live up to the strong legacy of values and principles that she believed to be most important for a good life.
