Ballet students invited to audition for Moscow Ballet’s “Nutcracker” at the Met

Moscow Ballet hosts auditions Sept. 7, for boys and girls ages 6 to 18, to perform in “The Great Russian Nutcracker” at the new Met in Philadelphia on Dec. 19.

Sixty student dancers will be selected to perform side-by-side with the professional company of 40 Russian dancers in ancillary roles of Party Children, Mice, Snowflakes, Angels, and more.

Moscow Ballet is again working with Pennsylvania School of the Performing Arts to make the open audition, rehearsals and performance possible.

Open auditions will be held Saturday, Sept. 7, at The Pennsylvania School of the Performing Arts, 2324 Second Street Pike and Penn’s Park Road, Newtown. Dancers ages 6.5 to 11 will audition from 2 to 3 p.m., and dancers ages 12 to 18 will audition from 3 to 4 p.m.

Arrive at least 15 minutes early to warm up and fill out the “Moscow Nutcracker” forms. Dancers must have at least one year of ballet training. The auditions will consist of a ballet combination in center and across the floor.

Boys attire is: white T-shirt, dark colored shorts or dark sweat pants, black jazz pants or tights, white socks or ballet/dance shoes.

Girls attire is: black leotard, pink tights, ballet shoes (pointe shoes if on pointe), and hair in ballet bun.

Dancers must be available to learn choreography Oct. 9 and 10, and for ongoing rehearsals Wednesdays until the performance.
