Bach Choir of Bethlehem cancels 113th annual festival

Posted

The 113th Bethlehem Bach Festival, a tradition that has continued largely uninterrupted since 1898, will not take place this year.

The festival had been scheduled for mid-May but was canceled “with an immeasurable amount of sadness, but an abundance of caution,” due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The annual Bethlehem Bach Festival is presented by The Bach Choir, Bach Festival Orchestra, and distinguished soloists performing under the direction of Greg Funfgeld.

Founded in 1898, the Bach Choir is completing its 122nd season this year. Although the season was disrupted by the COVID-19 outbreak, the choir is re-scheduling some of its canceled concerts and adding them to its next season.

“Preparation for this festival has been going on for a couple of years,” Funfgeld said.

“This is a temporary interruption, and Bach at Noon and all of our concerts will resume as soon as it is wise to do so.”

Ticket buyers may choose to donate the value of their ticket(s) as a tax-deductible contribution, or request a voucher good toward future Bach Choir concerts. Contact Renée James, marketing director, with questions at 610-866-4382 x 115.

The 114th Bethlehem Bach Festival will take place May 14, 15, 21 and 22, 2021. Tickets and a complete schedule will be available in July at bach.org.
