Arts & Cultural Council of Bucks invites artists to submit work

Posted

The Arts & Cultural Council of Bucks County invites artists to find inspiration in Henry Mercer’s innovations and arts for the upcoming “R.E.D.—Reimagine, Explore, Discover: Henry Mercer and His Innovations” exhibition.

The show will be online at bucksarts.org/RED and in-person at Freeman Hall on East Court Street in Doylestown, June 3 through July 17. From May 1 through May 15 until 5 p.m, visual artists are invited to submit works in a variety of mediums and styles that make a connection to Mercer’s legacy.

Like Mercer, they may find inspiration in any number of places: Bucks County, architecture, design, nature, science, travel and adventure, the environment, storytelling, history, pottery, innovation, invention, and more. The prospectus for the R.E.D. Show is available at bucksarts.org/red/.

Artists may produce new works in response to the call for art; they may also submit work previously created. In addition, submissions from new, emerging, and established artist are welcomed. The A&C especially encourages submissions from historically underrepresented voices in arts communities, and celebrates the full expression of all identities. Pre-submission sketching and photography appointments for artists planning to enter work in the R.E.D. exhibition are available on Mondays through May 9 at The TileWorks.

Submitting artists are not required to participate in “Photography Mondays”; this is simply an added attraction of the program for artists who may be interested. Details are in the A&C Event Calendar at bucksarts.org. The R.E.D. exhibition will kick off with a reception at Freeman Hall on June 3, followed by a weekend celebration that will include plein air painting, gallery talks, walking tours, family activities, tile talks, TileWorks and Fonthill tours, a fine art wet sale, and more. A “RED Innovators” passport will ensure that visitors to Bucks County who attend events on East Court Street over a period of days will receive a commemorative tile. Artist gallery talks and plein air days will continue Saturdays at Freeman Hall through the run of the show. “A Closer Look” programming will cap off the show during closing weekend, July 16-17, with a special presentation, “The Private Henry Mercer,” at the Mercer Museum. The R.E.D. Show is made possible through the generosity of Visit Bucks County.

Artist awards are sponsored by Phoenix Art Supplies & Framing, the Silverman Gallery, Rutherford’s Camera Shop, and Chimayo Gallery. Reception sponsors to date include Wycombe Vineyards, B&B Beverages, McCaffrey’s, and Wegman’s. Other regional community businesses and individuals who want to support the R.E.D. exhibition, events, and public reception are encouraged to email info@bucksarts.org. The Arts & Cultural Council of Bucks County has several levels of membership and sponsorship, from Student, Individual, and Family through Arts Business and Corporate Sponsorship.
