Posted

The Arts & Cultural Council of Bucks County welcomes five regional artists to join the all-volunteer board of directors in January.

Through a series of interviews, the A&C Nominating Committee had the opportunity to meet artists and arts advocates in the community, to learn about their passions, interests and talents, and to share in their enthusiasm for moving the council forward in meaningful ways.

Join the A&C in welcoming:

-Clifford Eberly, an artist and curator living in Doylestown. Since January 2022, he has directed the Hicks Art Center Gallery at Bucks County Community College.

-Christina Galagarza, a multidisciplinary artist who is passionate about amplifying the impact the arts have on cultural and social connectivity.

-Award-winning painter and art teacher Carol Gilbert, who works out of her home studio in Bucks County. She notes, “Bringing the beauty and joy of art to others is my heartfelt desire and reward.” Gilbert is stepping into the role of Corresponding Secretary.

-Ashara Shapiro, whose newest venture is ArtWRKD, an art consortium that recently opened in Newtown. The experiential space houses a gallery, as well as artist-in-residence and workshop space. Shapiro creates her wearable art brand, ARecherche, from her ArtWRKD studio.

-Creative director and fine artist Gene Underwood, who enjoys sharing his marketing experience with area nonprofit organizations including the League of Women Voters, Human Rights Campaign, and Phillips’ Mill. Underwood will lead marketing initiatives for the council.

The new board members join board President Ruth Anderson, Vice President Jane Ramsey, Treasurer Charlene Cerasa, Recording Secretary Susan Forker, Membership & Community Connections Chairperson Robbin Farr, Vincent Hawley, Director Emeritus Ed Matzkin, William Milnazik, Margaret Montet and Hayden Saunier in realizing the vision of the council.

Anderson notes, “It will be rewarding for all of us to collaboratively continue to fulfill our mission to ‘foster, strengthen, and promote Bucks County’s diverse arts and cultural community, build arts alliances, and enhance the Bucks County arts experience.’ The added energy and vision of these new members will help us continue to build on the momentum of the past few years and make the A&C the best it can be.”
