Art show and auction to benefit Yardley historical society’s work

Posted

Fifteen artworks and two large aerial maps from the walls of the Cadwallader Law Offices will be on display and up for silent auction at “Quintessential Yardley Art” from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, March 25 and 26, at the Old Library by Lake Afton, 46 W. Afton Ave., Yardley.

The show is hosted by the Yardley Historical Association, and proceeds will benefit the organization’s work.

Collected by T. Sidney Cadwallader in the 1960s and 70s, the works of art reflect his family’s pride in the community in which they were actively involved. They were contributed to the Yardley Historical Association when the law firm closed this winter.

All of the art depicts scenes in downtown Yardley – South and North Main streets, Canal Street, and East Afton Avenue. Many illustrate buildings and details that no longer can be seen. Among the artists represented are Janet H. Austin, Harriet Ermentrout, John Foster, Aaron G. Fryer, Peggy Dowdell Horn, Maurice Hugo, and Joanna Krasnansky.

The two large aerial maps were photographed in 1948 and 1950 and show the Delaware River flowing by Yardley Borough and Lower Makefield Township.

The pieces in “Quintessential Yardley” can be viewed at www.yardleyhistory.org/events/quintessential-yardley-art/.

Sales will support the preservation and maintenance of Yardley’s jewel, the Old Library by Lake Afton.
