Area police join in Plumstead Shop With a Cop event

Posted

Plumstead Township police hosted their second Shop With a Cop event at Plumstead K Mart last week with the assistance of officers volunteering from Buckingham, Solebury, Central Bucks Regional, Tinicum, Bedminster, Dublin, New Britain and Doylestown townships.

The national program pairs police officers with grade school-age children to promote positive relationships through community connection. These children are faced with life challenges such as a parent losing a job, homelessness, military deployment, and other hardships.

The event is funded through donations from residents and local businesses, such as Worth and Company, Innovative Environmental Technologies, Central Bucks Rotary, Junction PC and AI Restoration.

Each of the 95 children shopped with a cop pushing a cart through K Mart aisles and used their $150 gift cards to purchase gifts for themselves and their family for the holiday. Giant Food Store contributed a $100 gift card also. Volunteers from the community helped with gift-wrapping, registration and serving food.
