ARB collaborates with PSO for Beauty and the Beast

American Repertory Ballet presents its world premiere, “Beauty and the Beast,” choreographed by Resident Choreographer Kirk Peterson, at New Brunswick’s State Theatre New Jersey at 8 p.m. Friday, May 10.

The full-length ballet, set to music by Tchaikovsky, will be played live by the Princeton Symphony Orchestra under the baton of conductor Nell Flanders.

Peterson’s new ballet is an imaginative interpretation of the original French story, ‘La Belle et La Bête” (Beauty and the Beast) by Gabrielle-Suzanne de Villeneuve, first published in 1740. Peterson also credits the 1946 French film of the same title by French filmmaker Jean Cocteau as an inspiration for this production.

With original sets, new costumes and the Princeton Symphony Orchestra playing Tchaikovsky’s music, “Beauty and the Beast’ will transport audiences to the enchanted world of the fairy tale. Leading the cast will be ARB company members Nanako Yamamoto as Belle and Journy Wilkes-Davis as the Beast.

Tickets start at $35. To order, visit arballet.org or stnj.org, or call 732-246-7469.
