An open letter to the Central Bucks community

Posted

Last month, the CB Cares Educational Foundation Board became aware of content intended to shame the LGBTQ+ community, the NAACP, the leadership of the Central Bucks Education Association, The Rainbow Room, The Doylestown Human Relations Commission, and our own organization, CB Cares – among others – for their allyship and advocacy for diversity and more specifically – the LGBTQ+ community, as well as its youth, and their continued pursuit of a safe, supportive space in which to live and thrive as human beings.
It is our belief that those who have engaged in these actions are motivated by a desire to sow fear, division, and hostility in our community and in our schools. In the strongest possible terms, the CB Cares Educational Foundation Board and its executive director, Kimberly Cambra, condemn these actions.
This is not what we, the CB Cares Educational Foundation, stand for.
CB Cares has always acted in support of all students, without regard to race, color, religion, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, or economic status – including those who are marginalized in our society. We stand for equity in opportunity and resources, and inclusion of all students. We stand for the families that make up this amazing, diverse, and beautiful community that is the Central Bucks School District. We stand for the teachers, support staff, and administration of the school district that we partner with every day to best serve the interests of all children.
As we come upon our 25th anniversary in service to the children and families of the Central Bucks School District, we are reminded that a group of like-minded individuals engaged in brave conversations about what could be done to support the needs of our youth. This conversation led to the formation of CB Cares Educational Foundation – in partnership with Doylestown Hospital, the Central Bucks School District, local businesses, and the wider community. We introduced the 40 Assets, which, “consist of preventative measures, positive experiences, and qualities that young people need to grow up healthy, caring and responsible.” Among them, are assets that recognize the importance of cultural competence, equality, and justice.

CB Cares has conducted itself with the singular dedication to enriching the experience and education of students through innovative learning grants and Developmental Assets-based programs that promote responsible and resilient youth. Our impact has included … 23,000+ Boomerang Award Nominees, $230,000+ in Scholarships and Grants Provided, and 7,500+ Volunteer Hours.
We stand for hope. We stand with those in our community who wish to welcome reflective, open, respectful dialogue around what we wish this community to be – a place that is welcome, safe, and inclusive to all. We stand for the community that understands that our strength has always been in what brings us together – not what pulls us apart. We hope that you’ll stand with us.
