American Legion recognizes Doylestown boy for outstanding service

Posted

Nine-year-old Ben Paoletti of Doylestown was recognized recently for outstanding service to area veterans at a meeting of the American Legion Post 210 at its building on North Street in Doylestown.

The boy’s grandmother, Joan Paoletti, called the American Legion on Dec. 23 and told members that Ben had written out 100 holiday cards and placed a full-size Hershey bar in each card and wanted them to be given to local veterans. She said Ben had paid for the cards and the candy out of his own allowance.

The cards were delivered by John Murphy and Peter Scott, commander of Post 210, to Heritage Point Nursing Home, Wesley Enhanced Living Center, Doylestown Care and Rehabilitation Center, Liberty Pointe Rehabilitation and Healthcare, and Lakeview Assisted Living Center.

One of the caregivers at Heritage Point told Murphy and Scott that staff members hand-delivered the cards and each veteran reacted with a big smile.

At the Legion Hall, Ben was presented with a certificate of appreciation by the Legion and a large card signed by all the veterans from Heritage Point, and he received a standing ovation from the members of the Legion.
