“Airplane” returns to big screen in Newtown

Posted

“Airplane” returns to the big screen at the historic Newtown Theatre at 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4 This fun-filled night will feature movie trivia and a roving stewardess offering beer and wine for purchase. Admission is $10 for everyone and $5 for theatre members.

Released in 1980, this spoof comedy takes shots at the slew of disaster movies that were released in the 1970s. When the passengers and crew of a jet are incapacitated due to food poisoning, a rogue pilot with a drinking problem must cooperate with his ex-girlfriend turned stewardess to bring the plane to a safe landing. The film is best known for its fast-paced slapstick comedy, including visual and verbal puns, gags and obscure humor.
