A cautionary tale as elections approach

Posted

At the start of the school year here in Central Bucks County, I want to extend my thanks to CBSD Board members Karen Smith, Dr. Mariam Mahmud, and Dr. Tabitha Dell’Angelo. Your experience, competence, and concern for the preservation, relevance and excellence of our public schools –important pillars of democracy – are recognized and appreciated. No PR firm needed.

The remaining six CBSB members: Hunter, Vlasblom, Sciscio, Collopy, Cannon, and Pepper serve as a cautionary tale: Elections have consequences. Elections matter. Every single one.

These six are merely the tip of the national iceberg. Which brings me to the midterm elections this year. Although school board elections won’t occur again until 2023 and 2025, this November 2022, Pennsylvanians will (hopefully) go to the polls to elect local representatives, state legislators, a U.S. senator and a governor.

As we approach these midterms, it is more important than ever to participate. Make no mistake, democracy and the integrity of our elections are on the ballot.

Please familiarize yourself with the candidates and their positions. If the candidate is an incumbent, Google their voting record and actions. Focus more on what a candidate has done, less on what they say.

This November, make a plan to ensure your voice is heard, your vote counted. Because as we are continually reminded, elections have consequences.

Elections matter. Every. Single. One.
