The Midway Volunteer Fire Co. Carnival has been canceled after 87 years, the fire company announced on its website.
The 2018 event was the final one, the announcement said.
“Many generations in the communities of Buckingham and Solebury and the surrounding communities have attended and enjoyed the food, activities and rides the last two weekends of July,” the statement reads.
“Unfortunately, staffing of the kitchens and non-ride activities had become problematic. After thoughtful review, we decided that instead of a having a rides-only event, we would retire the carnival.
“The members of the Midway Volunteer Fire Company and the members of Midway Volunteer Fire Company Auxiliary wish to thank the thousands and thousands of residents that attended the carnivals over the years. Your attendance made this our second most significant fundraiser after our fund drive annually.
“Moving forward, we will rely more heavily on our annual fund drive and the Auxiliary events: Soup Days in November and the Fall and Spring Bingos. Your continued financial support allows us to provide the fire and rescue services you and your family deserve!”
The message of thanks is signed by the members of the Midway Fire Company and Auxiliary and “Supporting” Buckingham and Solebury townships.
