The nonprofit Oscar Hammerstein Museum and Theatre Education Center (OHMTEC) in Doylestown has announced the semifinalists in its international solo contest.

Semifinalists include:

Helena Badiali, who performed “This Nearly Was Mine” from South Pacific, in the Middle School category;

Kaitlin Deeter, who performed “I Can’t Say No,” from “Oklahoma!” in the Local category;

Brielle Lewandowski, who performed “The Sound of Music” from “The Sound of Music” in the College category;

Remy Mayo, who performed “You’ve Got to be Carefully Taught” from “South Pacific” in the Elementary category;

Kate Mincieli, who performed “Shall We Dance” from “The King and I” in the Local category;

Taylor Mitchell, who performed “The Sound of Music” from “The Sound of Music” in the College category;

Ella Patras, who performed “The Gentleman is a Dope” from “Allegro” in the Local category,

Caroline Portner, who performed “Mr. Snow” from “Carousel” in the College category;

Addison Rogers, who performed “The Sound of Music” from “The Sound of Music” in the Elementary category;

Sierra Safran, who performed “All the Thing You Are” from “Very Warm for May” in the High School category;

Lucy Spiegel, who performed “Cockeyed Optimist” from “South Pacific” in the Elementary and Local categories; and

Julianna Zannikos, who performed “If I Loved You” from “Carousel” in the Local category.

OHMTEC, which is in the midst of a nationwide fundraising campaign, was pleased to offer this opportunity for singers of all ages to display their talents and celebrate the works of the “Father of Broadway,” who contributed lyrics to over 800 songs that continue to reverberate around the world.

The contest is the brainchild of OHMTEC board member and music educator Jaime Rogers, in response to the challenges of teaching virtually during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Singing together live as an ensemble is on hold for the time being, but that doesn’t mean that we can’t work on our musicianship and vocal technique as individuals. This solo contest served as a viable performance opportunity for interested students and brought the sheer talent to light of so many performers,” Rogers said.

There may be more names added to the list Jan. 23, because a 2nd Chance Round, where singers that did not make the semifinals initially can win a spot by collecting votes is at app.viralsweep.com/contest/embed/992299-79670?framed=1.

The Oscar Hammerstein Museum and Theatre Education Center has been raising funds to support the nonprofit’s ongoing vision to secure the Highland Farm property and realize the dream of a museum and theater education center on the site of Oscar’s home.
