Police calm distraught woman on Lumberville Foot Bridge

Posted

Solebury Township Police credited three officers — Officers Brendan Murphy and Patrick Dorsey, of the Solebury squad, and Cpl. Michael Johnson, of Plumstead — with aiding a woman who’d climbed over the railing of the Lumberville Foot Bridge on New Year’s Day.

Police said they were dispatched to the bridge at 4:37 a.m. Monday “for an adult female threatening to jump from the bridge into the Delaware River.”

Murphy reportedly arrived first.

“For several minutes, Officer Murphy spoke with the distraught female, deescalating the situation, creating calm and security,” police said in a statement. “When back up Officer Dorsey and Corporal Johnson arrived on location, they were able to assist Officer Murphy with securing the female and lifting her back over the rail to the bridge walkway.”

The officers rendered aid until Central Bucks EMS took over.

“The professional and calm demeanor of all of the officers involved exemplify the highest standards and dedication to public service that they have committed to,” the statement read.

The department did not identify the woman and no further information was released about the incident.
