Peter R. Hunt of Wrightstown, PA, formerly of Lambertville, NJ, died on Monday, January 8, 2024, at the Doylestown Hospital, Doylestown, PA. COVID was the primary cause of death. He was 65 years old.

Born at the then new Hunterdon Medical Center in Raritan Township, NJ, Peter was a lifelong resident of the Lambertville area. He attended Buckingham Friends School, Solebury School, and the Devereux School in West Chester, PA. Peter was, most recently, a delivery and operations assistant for Owowcow Creamery in Bucks County. Peter was a man of many interests and could master any skill to which he set his mind. He loved plants and regularly advised family and friends on how best to tend their ailing house plants. His love of nature extended to animals. He always made sure that bird feeders were filled and that any injured creature got the medical attention it needed. Peter also loved music. He played the piano, the guitar, and the cello, an instrument he first took up at age 38 and soon mastered. For many years, he traveled to Lubec, ME, with his cello to participate in chamber music with his good friends Jim Bump and Rachel Lewis and his many new friends in the SummerKeys program. He wrote poetry. He made a special project of the restoration and preservation of Mt. Hope Cemetery in Lambertville, a historic and still active site and the burial ground of several generations of the Hunt family. Peter was a devoted son, spending his last years as a caregiver to his mother, who died in December at age 95. He was also a dedicated brother and uncle, cherished by his nieces and nephew. Though a quiet, gentle soul, he deeply enjoyed a wide variety of friends.

Peter was the son of the late Janet Marsh Hunt and William M. Hunt. He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law Anne Hunt White and Denis White of Corvallis, OR; his brother and sister-in-law Thomas M. and Kathrine Hunt of Stockton, NJ; his dear friend Barbara Cash of Wrightstown, PA (who shared his devoted caregiving for the late Janet Hunt); his nieces and nephews Jess White and her partner Christopher Still and their daughter Edie Still of Corvallis; Dorothy White and her partner Bret Sherman of Albany, OR; Leah Hunt and James Hunt of Stockton; his cousins Joan Hunt Robinson of Salem, OR; Dana Marsh of Bloomington, IN; Janet Marsh Demeter of Dunsmuir, CA, her husband Barry and their daughter Sophie; Fred and Judy Grey of Nobleboro, ME; Emily Grey of Arnold, MD, and her husband Matt Holtzman and their daughter Zulma; and Jamie Grey of Burlington, VT, his wife Tasha and their children Rowan, Evelyn, and Desmond.

Services were held on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at the Van Horn-McDonough Funeral Home, 21 York Street, Lambertville, New Jersey 08530.

Donations in Peter’s memory may be made to Tabby’s Place, A Cat Sanctuary, 1100 US Highway 202, Ringoes, NJ 08551.
