Michael W. Scheetz

Posted

After a brief illness, Michael W. Scheetz passed away in New York City on January 1, 2024. He was 82.

Michael was a native of Riegelsville, Pa. He was born February 3, 1941, to the late Walter and Margaret Hale Scheetz, and he was the brother of the late Loretta Scheetz. He was educated in Riegelsville and Easton schools and was a graduate of Villanova University. After college, Michael had a career in advertising in New York.

Michael visited Bucks County frequently and always made it a point to stop in Riegelsville. He had fond memories of growing up there such as rowing his boat in the canal, bicycling to the Cascade Lodge in Kintnersville for a swim and being rescued by boat during the 1955 flood. In later years, via calls or notes, he kept in touch with Bucks County friends and acquaintances from his youth. He was also a regular attendee at reunion lunches hosted by his high school classmates.

In his youth, Michael spent summers with his family in Wildwood, N.J. During summer breaks from college, he worked as a waiter in Ocean City, N.J., and participated in the lively after hours social scene in Somers Point and other spots.

Although his only boating experience involved a rowboat, Michael decided in 1975 to buy a sailboat despite not having any prior sailing experience. Luckily the boat also had an engine.

Michael was an avid fan of Big East college basketball and March Madness, with special interest in his alma mater’s Villanova Wildcats.

Michael is survived by numerous friends and relatives.

Interment will occur at a later date to be announced.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation in Michael’s name to the Riegelsville Public Library, PO Box 65, Riegelsville, PA 18077, or to your preferred organization.
