Local author to discuss “Stories Behind Peace Valley”

Posted

The community is invited to Doylestown Presbyterian Church, 127 E. Court St., Doylestown from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. Sunday, May 19, for a special presentation by author Kathryn R. McKenna as she explores the rich history of the Peace Valley area as outlined in her 2023 book, “Stories Behind Peace Valley.”

Ever since moving to Doylestown in the 1970s, McKenna has enjoyed the Peace Valley area – taking advantage of all the leisurely activities like sailing, biking, walking, meeting friends or picnicking. But she was unaware of the massive transformation of the region that occurred shortly before her arrival and all the fascinating details of its rich history.

The book is described as “a glimpse into the history, businesses, mining operations, lake project and the lives and activities of those who lived and worked there before the man-made lake was created. Lake Galena and the village of New Galena were named after the discovery of the mineral in the valley that changed the future of the lives and livelihood of the residents and businesses forever. The book is organized as a virtual tour, stopping at places of interest along the trail that encircles the lake.”

Visitors are also welcome to join for worship services held before (8:30 a.m.) and after (10:30 a.m.) the event.
