During his monthly report at the March 13 Bedminster Township supervisors meeting, Police Chief Matt Phelan announced that his department now offers a pet registry. He encouraged residents to register their pets to assist in getting them home sooner in the event they are lost or found.
Also at the meeting, supervisors came out against a request for zoning relief from The Garden Girl Company, a horticultural service provider operating out of a Fatima Lane address.
Currently zoned for storage, contracting and home uses, the business is eyeing potential growth opportunities, including nursery use — needed for greenhouses — and also an agricultural use.
The supervisors directed the township solicitor to inform the zoning hearing board of their opposition to the requested relief and to provide a list of conditions for the zoning board to consider if it determines some relief is appropriate.
Jackie and Daniel Chapman, owners of The Garden Girl, indicated they did not intend to have a retail store, but perhaps a roadside stand to sell flowers.
The property was previously an Alpaca farm. It currently has a barn used to store commercial vehicles, plants and gardening tools. All gardening occurs at offsite locations, and it is performed by 17 employees from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Also at the March 12 work session, Township Engineer Curt Genner reported that the development of a 14-unit townhouse project split between two buildings on the 10-acre Curtis Tract on Schadle Road, has progressed to a pre-construction meeting. The project’s actual start now awaits only signing of development agreements; “fees-in-lieu-of” submitted to the township; and recording of final plans.
