Panthers lose to Souderton

Quakertown boys’ volleyball went down to Souderton, 3-1 (28-30, 25-23, 25-6, 25-18), on Monday. Rams squeeze by Bucks

Pennridge boys’ volleyball prevailed at Central Bucks West, 3-1 (25-18, 28-26, 19-25, 25-20), on Monday. Stats for Pennridge: Jesse Smith, 40 assists, 12 digs, five blocks; Ben Chinnici, 22 kills, eight digs, three aces; Cross Edwards, eight kills, six digs, two aces; Aaron Nelson, six kills, four blocks; Josiah Friesen, five kills, three blocks; Kevin Jones, three kills, five blocks; Austin Rush, 10 digs; and Jeremy Baum, 10 digs. The Rams are on top of the SOL Continental with a record of 12-1 and will head to North Penn on Wednesday.

North Penn nips Panthers

Quakertown boys’ volleyball lost to North Penn, 3-2 (25-18, 17-25, 25-12, 22-25, 15-11), on Friday. Stats for Quakertown: Mike Dierolf, 14 kills, eight digs; Zach Dierolf, six kills, four digs, two blocks; Graham Wilson, three kills, four blocks; Kevin Steich, two blocks; Logan Spieker, four kills, five digs, three blocks, one ace; Drew Stout, 23 assists; Zac Mahler, 10 digs; and Kevin Finlayson, two digs.

State powers collide

In a battle of the two of the top 10 teams in the state, visiting Hempfield needed five sets to get rid of Pennridge, 3-2 (25-22, 22-25, 20-25, 25-13, 15-11), on Friday. Stats for Pennridge: Jesse Smith, 46 assists, nine digs; Ben Chinnici, 29 kills, 12 digs, four blocks, two aces; Kevin Jones, eight kills, three blocks; Cross Edwards, five kills, 14 digs; Josiah Friesen, four kills, five blocks; Aaron Nelson, four kills, two blocks; Austin Rush, 16 digs; and Jeremy Baum, five digs. The Rams will travel to Central Bucks West on Monday night.

Stats for Pennridge: Jesse Smith, 24 assists, six digs, two blocks; Ben Chinnici, 12 kills, 12 aces; Kevin Jones, eight kills, three blocks; Zach Detweiler, four kills, four blocks; Cross Edwards, four kills, seven digs, two aces; Josiah Friesen, five kills, four blocks; and Austin Rush, 14 digs. Stats for Quakertown: Mike Dierolf, 10 kills, four digs, one ace; Zach Dierolf, four kills; Graham Wilson, three kills, one block; Chris Cowan, two blocks; Logan Spieker, six kills, three digs, two blocks; Drew Stout, 17 assists; Josh Moyer, three digs; and Zac Mahler, 16 digs. The Rams are 11-2 overall this season and 11-1 in league play. Pennridge will host state power Hempfield in a nonleague match on Friday night.

CB South boys’ volleyball fell to North Penn, 3-1 (25-19, 25-19, 20-25, 25-14), on Monday. Stats for CB South: Mark Macios, one kill, one block, four digs, 21 assists; Justin Koren, 10 kills, seven blocks, 13 digs, three assists; Tim White, four kills, three digs; Joe Karn, one ace, three kills, two blocks, two digs; and Mason Zeo, two aces, five kills, nine digs.

Pennridge boys’ volleyball won comfortably over CB East, 3-0 (25-11, 25-11, 25-19), on Monday. Stats for Pennridge: Jesse Smith, 31 assists, four kills, five aces; Ben Chinnici, 14 kills, four blocks; Cross Edwards, 10 kills, 12 digs, two blocks; Aaron Nelson, three kills, three blocks; Kevin Jones, three kills, three blocks; Josiah Friesen, five kills; Ryan Spangler, two kills; Austin Rush, 10 digs; and Jeremy Baum, 10 digs. The Rams are 10-2 on the season and 10-1 in SOL Continental Conference play.

Rams settle for second

Pennridge boys’ volleyball placed second at Saturday’s State College Invitational. In morning pool play, the Rams defeated Meadville and Wilson, both by 2-0 scores, and split with State College, 1-1. In reseeded pool play, Pennridge split with Northeastern, 1-1; beat York Suburban, 2-0; and fell to Central York, 2-0. In the semifinals, the Rams downed York Suburban, 30-18, before losing to Northeastern, 25-18, 25-23, in the final.
