Rams lose heartbreaker

Pennridge boys’ volleyball dropped a 3-2 (20-25, 25-23, 20-25, 25-22, 15-9) decision to Hempfield in Tuesday’s state semifinals at Wilson-West Lawn. Stats for Pennridge: Jesse Smith, 54 assists, four kills, nine digs; Ben Chinnici, 36 kills, eight digs, two aces; Josiah Friesen, eight kills, three blocks; Aaron Nelson, seven kills, two blocks; Kevin Jones, three kills, three blocks; Cross Edwards, five kills, eight digs; Austin Rush, 15 digs, five aces; and Jeremy Baum, six digs. Pennridge ended its season with a 20-4 record. “We say goodbye to eight phenomenal seniors in Jesse Smith, Aaron Nelson, Ryan Spangler, Sam Cullen, Jon Bedillion, Caleb Pennell, Jeremy Baum and Austin Rush,” head coach Dave Childs said.

Rams head to semifinals

Pennridge boys’ volleyball advanced to the state semifinals against Hempfield on Tuesday with its 3-1 (25-16, 13-25, 35-33, 25-19) victory over District 11 runner-up Liberty on Saturday at Quakertown. Stats for Pennridge: Jesse Smith, 38 assists, seven digs, three aces, two blocks; Ben Chinnici, 20 kills, 10 digs, four blocks; Cross Edwards, 10 kills, six digs, two blocks; Aaron Nelson, four kills, four blocks; Josiah Friesen, five kills, three blocks; Kevin Jones, two kills, three blocks; Austin Rush, 18 digs; Jeremy Baum, eight digs; and Ryan Spangler, two aces.

Rams advance to quarters

Pennridge boys’ volleyball swept District Three third-place Red Lion, 3-0 (25-20, 25-23, 27-25), on Wednesday to move on to the state quarterfinals, where the Rams will take on District 11 runner-up Liberty High School on Saturday. Stats for Pennridge against Red Lion: Jesse Smith, 35 assists, three kills; Ben Chinnici, 24 kills, two aces; Cross Edwards, six kills, two aces, six digs; Aaron Nelson, four kills, five blocks; Kevin Jones, two kills, three blocks; Josiah Friesen, five kills, three blocks; Austin Rush, 16 digs, two aces; Jeremy Baum, four digs; and Ryan Spangler, two aces.

Rams wear district crown

TPennridge-5-26hird-seeded Pennridge boys’ volleyball knocked off top-seeded Council Rock North, 3-1 (25-21, 15-25, 25-20, 25-17), on Thursday evening at William Tennent to capture the District One Class AAA championship. Stats for Pennridge: Jesse Smith, 41 assists, nine digs, one ace; Ben Chinnici, 22 kills, three blocks, two aces; Josiah Friesen, nine kills, two blocks; Aaron Nelson, nine kills, six blocks; Cross Edwards, six kills, 17 digs, two blocks; Kevin Jones, three kills; Austin Rush, 10 digs; and Jeremy Baum, seven digs. The Rams (18-3) will play the third-place finisher from District Three in the opening round of states on Wednesday.

Rams dust off Pennsbury

Third-seeded Pennridge boys’ volleyball swept No. 2 Pennsbury, 3-0 (25-20, 25-23, 26-24), in Tuesday’s district semifinals at William Tennent. Stats for Pennridge: Jesse Smith, 36 assists, six digs, two blocks; Ben Chinnici, 20 kills, five blocks; Cross Edwards, seven kills, nine digs, two aces; Josiah Friesen, six kills, two blocks; Aaron Nelson, six kills, four blocks; Kevin Jones, three kills, two blocks; Austin Rush, 22 digs; and Jeremy Baum, five digs. The Rams are now 17-3 overall this season. They will take on Council Rock North in the District One final on Thursday night. Tuesday’s win also clinched a spot for Pennridge in the state playoffs for the eighth consecutive season.

Rams eliminate Tennent

No. 3 Pennridge boys’ volleyball took down sixth-seeded William Tennent, 3-1 (25-12, 27-25, 23-25, 25-16), on Thursday in the district quarterfinals. Stats for Pennridge: Jesse Smith, 44 assists, two kills, six digs; Ben Chinnici, 22 kills, three aces; Josiah Friesen, 10 kills, four digs; Aaron Nelson, nine kills; Kevin Jones, five kills; Cross Edwards, two aces, six digs; and Austin Rush, 14 digs, four aces. The Rams moved to 16-3 on the season and will face No. 2 Pennsbury in the district semifinals on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Titans take thriller in five

CB South boys’ volleyball defeated La Salle, 3-2 (26-24, 25-17, 16-25, 12-25, 15-12), Tuesday on Senior Recognition Night. Stats for CB South: Tyler Grochowski, one kill, five digs; Jack Mayhew, two aces, nine kills, seven blocks, 15 digs; Mark Macios, one kill, five blocks, six digs, 31 assists; Justin Koren, three aces, 19 kills, nine blocks, five digs; and David Lulko, one ace, 14 digs.

Panthers blow out Cheltenham

Quakertown boys’ volleyball eased past Cheltenham, 3-0 (25-12, 25-19, 25-17), on Monday. Stats for Quakertown: Mike Dierolf, 15 kills, five digs, two aces; Zach Dierolf, 11 kills, two aces, one block; Graham Wilson, five kills, three blocks, one ace; Chris Cowan, three kills, one ace; Logan Spieker, seven kills, four aces; Drew Stout, 38 assists, two aces; Zac Mahler, four digs; and Kevin Finlayson, two digs.

Rams rip Upper Dublin

Pennridge boys’ volleyball swept Upper Dublin, 3-0 (25-16, 25-16, 25-22), on Monday. Stats for Pennridge: Jesse Smith, 26 assists, nine digs, two blocks; Aaron Nelson, seven kills, three blocks; Cross Edwards, eight kills, three blocks; Kevin Jones, five kills, two blocks; Josiah Friesen, five kills, four aces, two blocks; Austin Rush, 12 digs, two aces; Caleb Pennell, eight digs; and Ethan Lionetti, six digs. The Rams wrapped up the regular season at 15-3 overall and 15-1 in the SOL Continental Conference.
