Pennridge girls’ swimming sank Council Rock South, 108-75, and the Ram boys went down, 107-76, to the Golden Hawks on Tuesday. Three Pennridge pool records fell. The Rams girls’ 200 medley relay of Hannah Zurmuhl, Brittany Weiss, Anna Beno and Sam Vargo set the new mark in 1:53.44. The girls’ 400 freestyle relay of Zurmuhl, Weiss, Beno and Morgan Scott came away with a 3:39.65 to establish a new record. And Zurmuhl, in the 50 freestyle, eclipsed the Pennridge pool mark again, going 24.24. She had set the previous mark (24.28) on Dec. 5. The Rams will welcome Upper Perkiomen to town on Thursday, at 4:30 p.m.
Pennridge boys’ and girls’ swimming started the season off right with a pair of victories over visiting Cheltenham on Friday. The boys won, 128-58, and the girls prevailed, 113-67. “The Pennridge girls and boys were very impressive in their first outing of the season with two pool records, three school records, 10 automatic district qualifying cuts and three consideration district qualifying cuts,” head coach Ryan Griffiths said. Brittany Weiss set a school record in the 200 IM (2:13.45) and hit her district automatic cut. She also made districts in the 100 breaststroke. Morgan Scott won the 200 free in a district automatic time of 1:55.42. She also established a new school and pool record in taking the 500 free in a district-qualifying 5:10.20. Anna Beno made districts in the 100 backstroke in 1:02.04, and Hannah Zurmuhl scored a new pool record and a district automatic cut in the 50 free in 24.28 and made the district field in the 100 free. Weiss, Claire Beno, Hannah Zurmuhl and Scott won the 200 free relay in a school-record time of 1:40.45 and are going to districts. Weiss, Anna Beno, Zurmuhl and Scott, in the 400 free relay, also advanced to districts in 3:43.49. For the boys, Aaron Lloyd landed a place in districts for diving.
